Akasha Gopuram : The Castle In The Air

If this movie becomes India’s entry to the Oscars its sure going to win in the foreign film category because its the most boring movie I have seen.

When I went to book the tickets for this much awaited Mohanlal movie all I knew was that it was an inspiration of Henrik Ibsen’s work Master Builder. That was the first time I ever heard that name. Anyways that’s my knowledge of theater, it sucks big time.

Probably I’am too dumb to understand such high funda movie, gimme a masala movie any day any language and I can lap it up, but boy of boy this was too hard on the brain. You want to leave the theatre but then realise that you paid 150 bucks for this so hang on probably Mohanlal would turn around.

The flow of the movie is more like a drama and thats where people get bored. Everyone in the movie hall had the WTF WAS THAT expression after the movie ended. The cinematography was good. The way they have captured British countryside was really good. Mohanlal plays an egostical architect who just cant let go of things because he’s afraid that the younger generation would take it all away. Well the orginal was written in 1892 which shows that this kind of insecurity is evergreen.

Watch it if you really like parallel cinema i.e. movies which the common man can never understand BTW this one has got English subtitles.

I’m running the Mumbai Marathon

Was in two minds for all these days whether to register for the Mumbai marathon.

Saw this sideshow today and then picked up my credit card and registered online.

Registered my self for the full marathon the 42 kms run.

I got 5 months to train myself, I jog for a 5 kms at least thrice a week now expecting to improve it in the days to come.

I have got another reason to jog daily.

I have never ran such a long distance nor pushed my body to such an extent but there’s always a first time.

Anyone in Navi Mumbai and want to train together do leave a comment.

People interested in registering online can do it here.

Read it.

Jinhe Naaz Hai Hind Par

I’m not a music person, I can’t differentiate between two singers/bands. I’m a total zero when it comes to music (and lot of other things too).

Heard the new song Bilkis by Rabbi.

Nice thought provoking song. He talks about Bilkis Bano, Satyendra Dubey, Manjunath and Navleen Kumar.

Issues which would cease to exist in a couple of years, till some one else with balls dies and the story continues.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Saw it yesterday night.

Though the story is a cliched Hindi movie love story which ends with the hero on a horse at the airport you would still love it. The script is extremely good which doesn’t bore you even a bit, at some places the second half seems to be little drag but its maaf.

When the movie ends you are guranteed to have a silly smile on your face…its got the feel good factor not like the BJP one but much better.

Its placed itself quite high in the all time cult of the chocolate boy romances like QSQT,MPK and DDLJ.

Trip to Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary

Posting it late had been to Phansad wildlife sanctuary two weekends ago.

Phansad lies between Alibaug and Murud.

To visit you need to register with the forest conservation office in Thane.

Since we were traveling for the first time we took ST buses and had to hire a 6 seater rickshaw. Ideally driving down would had been the better option.

If traveling by bus from Mumbai , then take the ST bus to Murud and get down at Ursauli naka, from there take a six seater or take Manmad bus which goes thru Roha route, it would drop you at the sanctuary’s entrance.

There are two guest houses there with basic amenities and you can get food from the nearby village.
The forest guards took us thru one of the many trails in the forest, unfortunately for us the regular forest guard was on leave and two other guards from a nearby forest escorted us.

The forest was very dense, I really dunno how our government can take care of such beautiful forests with hardly any manpower. These forest guards don’t even have walkie talkies !!!

The trail which we took was called the Chikalgaan trail, it lead us to a watering hole . The trail was very good untouched by any human presence, no water bottles or gutka packets lying around. It was a very refreshing walk in the jungle.

Since we were visiting during the monsoons we couldn’t see any wildlife other than one monkey.  Saw a good number of insects which the sanctuary is also known for.

The guards told us that the best time to visit is during the summers and if you are patient enough you can see a lot of wild animals including leopards.

They took us to one of their watch towers; the view from the watch tower was amazing. On one side you had the Arabian Sea and on the other the dense jungle

When it rained in there it was simply magic, you need to experience it.

On the way back we visited Murud Janjira would post about that trip later.

I forgot to charge my camera so couldn’t take any snaps, here are some taken by my friend’s camera. Click on them for a better view.

This is the Arabian Sea from the tower

The dense jungle as far as the eyes can see

This is the Chikalgaan trail, it looks straight out of some creepy Hollywood movie set.

This is the watering hole at the end of the trail.

I somehow liked this dude, posing for a photograph. Look at his camouflage.

Sarkar Raj

Saw the much awaited Sarkar Raj yesterday. First and foremost I feel that the Govinda tune was over used, in the first half after almost every dialogue the theme song would blast in the background. The movie lives up to the adage that the sequels can never overcome the original. The story line is about a power plant being set up and the politics in that. Like the original here too there are scenes of the villains huddling together and scheming against the Nagre family and the climax shoes that the brain was some one else whom they trusted. Some of the dialogues are good I liked the one where one of the characters says "India me public ko development nahi entertainment chahiye" it’s so true. More than the acting it was the camera which took stage shooting in lots of weird angles and the sepia tinge. The first part was fully "INSPIRED" by the The God Father the second is not. Amitabh was good as usual and Abhishek played his part of being a suit wearing don but with a lot of harping on "Maharashtra ki unnati" which I feel was not required. One or twice would have been fine but every time the talk about the power plant comes up there’s Maharashtras unnati coming up. I guess they wanted to give a message that as a family they are concerned about Mahrashtras progress. The pre release rumors that it’s based on Raj and Uddhav’s fight is all bull shit. Like the first part the actors who play the villains did it well. I forgot to mention Aishwarya well she’s in the movie wearing business suits accompanying her real life beau and crying once a while also delivering couple of lines. Most of her role is spent on close angle shots with some expressions thrown in. Tanisha’s role as Shankar Nagre’s wife was better than her famous bra advertisement. The movie ends with a probability that a third part can be made if required.
