Mumbai Indians vs Deccan Chargers at DY Patil

Yesterday I saw my first IPL match live at the DY Patil stadium. Good thing that they built it close to my house. The stadium is very good compared to the joke called Wankhede.

I think that the DY Patil stadium is the best in India and hopefully they would keep it that way. The cops and the adminsitration did a good job in managing the crowd and the parking arrangements made were quite good for such a huge crowd.

The last time I went to a stadium was Wankhede to watch an India Australia one day, the Aussies kicked our butt.

I liked the atmosphere; it was more like a big party. You have to be in a stadium to actually feel why T20 is getting popular. The stadium was packed with 55000 people one can imagine what Eden gardens might be with 1 lakh on a houseful day.

The organizers were playing the usual item songs from movies and boy it was fun to sit with 55000 people most of them were dancing for no particular reason. They had kept some dhol walas in the stands to play the typical Mumbhaiyya tune which we hear during Ganesh visarjan. Music which brings out the ranti dude in any Mumbaikar.

The crowd wanted Sachin and when he waved on the big screen they went mad.

Those who were opposing the cheerleaders should have been in the stands, the moment the firangi cheerleaders of Deccan Chargers came in people forgot that a match was going on.

Everybody in the there were ogling at them.

Well give our crowd firang babes they go bonkers. The poor Mumbai Indians cheerleaders were totally ignored for these goras they must be feeling like Mukesh Ambani after the match. This happens in a sexually suppressed society.

Coming back to the match it was paisa vasool with Gilly giving batting lessons to the Mumbai batsmen.

Initially the crowd was cheering for the Mumbai Indians team but when Gilly started hitting people started cheering him.

I feel that IPL would not be able to bring in team loyalty like the football leagues; people just want fours and sixes from anyone.

Gilly gave the masses what they wanted. The ovation he got was much better than what he would get in Australia. Felt pity for Symonds whenever he came near the boundary for fielding he was booed by the crowd.

Whatever people say I still feel that Deccan Chargers is a good team and they certainly can win over anybody only Laxman should be on the bench. The other team which has got an impressive run till now is the Chennai Super Kings.

Speaking of Chennai this Dhoni ad is worth a watch.

Mumbai Indians !!!

The name for the Mumbai team for IPL has been announced. Its been called Mumbai Indians.

Im sure a lot of creative people may have been hired or some consultanting firm must have been paid a bomb to come out with names.

But I dont understand the logic in calling it Mumbai Indians ???

IPL whats the fuss???

I don’t understand why the hell some people make such a fuss about IPL.

People say that its not going to help cricket, well cricketers, I’m not talking about the 20 odd ones who regularly feature in and out of the national team, but of the others who are passionate about the game but due to their fate, destiny, karma, whatever could never make it would finally start earning some money.

Do you think the franchise owners, majority of them the biggest businessmen country has ever produced are such collective fools, that they dont know where to put in their money. Grow up they have got better business acumen than the rest of the nation put together.

Kids can think of cricket as a career now, so what if you don’t get selected to the national team, play in IPL for couple of seasons and you make more money than Kapil has done in his entire career.

It’s not going to help Indian sports, that’s a joke yaar. Indian sport is cricket and nothing else. The condition would have been the same if IPL was never formed.

Cricketers would not play for the country but for the league, cricketers play because they like cricket. No one grows up saying I want to do something for the country let me play cricket, you start playing because you like it. Personally for me these 11 people are not my country so even if they win or loose its not my country’s insult.

It’s gambling, forget sports life itself is uncertain, everything is gamble. Its business you put in money and get more money, which you may distribute with a few. All business are built to make more money, if you are not getting any then hardluck buddy.

It’s an insult to the nation when you auction sportsmen. Grow up folks leagues all over the world sell and buy players.

It’s an insult to the nation if women are groped in public, if kids are raped, if people get killed because of religion/caste/language, if you keep the country dirty the list is endless but not when sportsmen have signed contracts to play for their own good.  Remember that they are not being sold as slaves.

They say it’s nothing but money making venture, well mate what’s wrong in making money within the laws of the country.

It’s a very stupid mentality that we have grown with, making money is a bad thing; just because you didn’t make it doesn’t mean it’s bad.

If someone else is making let them make it na.

Stop the fuss and enjoy the game.

My favourite is  the Hyderabad team, with Afridi, Gilly, Gibbs, Symonds and Rohit Sharma they have a really explosive line up.

Raw deal for ICL??

I couldn’t watch a single match because my cable guy doesn’t show Zee sports.

I feel that ICL has been given a reallly raw deal by the media.

Newspapers don’t have much coverage on ICL matches, only the inaugural day was covered well may be it was Kareena magic.

Other than ZEE News other channels hardly cover ICL matches.

If things go on like this it would surely give Essel guys a really hard time. The revenue would get hit, as this report suggests they can’t rake in the moolah thru tickets, they have to grab a good chunk of TV viewers.

With IPL having ready national and international names with really deep pockets to sponsor them, ICL guys would have a really tough time ahead.

ICL starting soon

The first season of ICL would start soon.

Their success would depend solely on the number of eyeballs they would manage to capture.

The teams seems to have an interesting line up, all the foreign players are veterans but the Indian players are all fresh.

Whether league cricket catch up big time only time would tell, we may have to wait for million dollar transfers.

I feel the number of teams should be more, at least 16.

This would also enure that the season would go on for more than a month.

The ICL would face problems because of the hostile BCCI chances of their future seasons clashing with other international cricket tournamenst in addition to BCCI’s own IPL are imminent.

Too much of cricket may also cause people to turn away from their TV screens.
