Billu Barber ya sirf Billu

What the heck is wrong with the word barber?

All I knew was that its an English word till the pundits at the The Saloon and Beauty Parlours Association pointed out that it was casteist. WTF !!!!!!!!!

Wikipedia says that “In previous times, barbers also performed surgery and dentistry”

So now these guys would want themselves to be called doctors !!!!

Wow log mileage ke liye kuch bi karte hai they just piggyback on anyone.

I think what Shahrukh and company did by changing the name of Billu Barber to Billu was completely wrong.

They shouldn’t have buckled under the pressure of such associations, next they would demand that the word barber should be banned

Lately it has become a trend.

If I don’t like some thing then all I have to do is gather some goons, do some thod phod if required which would surely give me added brownie points all under the umbrella of some stupid organization.

What Shahrukh has done now is given them an identity by accepting their demands, something they never had. Unko sirf ignore marna chahiye tha.

This would definitely give a booster shot to all the other similar assholes out there.

Why do we have a censor board?

Fashion ka jalwa

Watched Fashion yesterday. It took me back to a situational leadership workshop attended couple of years ago. The trainer told us that animals have only two reactions to an unknown stimulus fight or flight, but human beings have an extra negotiate.

Thats what the three main characters of the movie do, Meghna Mathur played by Priyanka Chopra fights, Janet played by Mughda Godse negotiates  and Shonali Gujral played by Kanagana Ranaut flights.

The movie is typical Madhur Bhandarkar realistic genre, like his previous movies it tells how certain individuals sell their morals to get on top and how most of them falls on their face, but who the hell decides whats moralistic and whats not?

Although Priyanka is projected as the main protagonist of the movie I liked the role played by Kangana Ranaut.

Its worth a watch but a long  one.

Akasha Gopuram : The Castle In The Air

If this movie becomes India’s entry to the Oscars its sure going to win in the foreign film category because its the most boring movie I have seen.

When I went to book the tickets for this much awaited Mohanlal movie all I knew was that it was an inspiration of Henrik Ibsen’s work Master Builder. That was the first time I ever heard that name. Anyways that’s my knowledge of theater, it sucks big time.

Probably I’am too dumb to understand such high funda movie, gimme a masala movie any day any language and I can lap it up, but boy of boy this was too hard on the brain. You want to leave the theatre but then realise that you paid 150 bucks for this so hang on probably Mohanlal would turn around.

The flow of the movie is more like a drama and thats where people get bored. Everyone in the movie hall had the WTF WAS THAT expression after the movie ended. The cinematography was good. The way they have captured British countryside was really good. Mohanlal plays an egostical architect who just cant let go of things because he’s afraid that the younger generation would take it all away. Well the orginal was written in 1892 which shows that this kind of insecurity is evergreen.

Watch it if you really like parallel cinema i.e. movies which the common man can never understand BTW this one has got English subtitles.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Saw it yesterday night.

Though the story is a cliched Hindi movie love story which ends with the hero on a horse at the airport you would still love it. The script is extremely good which doesn’t bore you even a bit, at some places the second half seems to be little drag but its maaf.

When the movie ends you are guranteed to have a silly smile on your face…its got the feel good factor not like the BJP one but much better.

Its placed itself quite high in the all time cult of the chocolate boy romances like QSQT,MPK and DDLJ.

Sarkar Raj

Saw the much awaited Sarkar Raj yesterday. First and foremost I feel that the Govinda tune was over used, in the first half after almost every dialogue the theme song would blast in the background. The movie lives up to the adage that the sequels can never overcome the original. The story line is about a power plant being set up and the politics in that. Like the original here too there are scenes of the villains huddling together and scheming against the Nagre family and the climax shoes that the brain was some one else whom they trusted. Some of the dialogues are good I liked the one where one of the characters says "India me public ko development nahi entertainment chahiye" it’s so true. More than the acting it was the camera which took stage shooting in lots of weird angles and the sepia tinge. The first part was fully "INSPIRED" by the The God Father the second is not. Amitabh was good as usual and Abhishek played his part of being a suit wearing don but with a lot of harping on "Maharashtra ki unnati" which I feel was not required. One or twice would have been fine but every time the talk about the power plant comes up there’s Maharashtras unnati coming up. I guess they wanted to give a message that as a family they are concerned about Mahrashtras progress. The pre release rumors that it’s based on Raj and Uddhav’s fight is all bull shit. Like the first part the actors who play the villains did it well. I forgot to mention Aishwarya well she’s in the movie wearing business suits accompanying her real life beau and crying once a while also delivering couple of lines. Most of her role is spent on close angle shots with some expressions thrown in. Tanisha’s role as Shankar Nagre’s wife was better than her famous bra advertisement. The movie ends with a probability that a third part can be made if required.

Khuda Ke Liye and Horton Hears A Who

Watched two movies recently the acclaimed Pakistani movie Khuda Ke Liye and the animation movie Horton Hears A Who.

I was quite eager to watch khuda Ke Liye since it was a Pakistani movie which was released in India.

The movie is all about Islam and terrorism. One thing I came to know through the portrayal of the heroine’s father is that hypocrisy is a sub continental thing.

This bloke is shown to live in London, drinks beer and has a white woman as his wife, but he wants his daughter to marry a Pakistani and not her white boy friend.

He  manages to cheat her into marrying a wannabe Jehadi.

It captures the story of the wannabe Jehadi; how he is misguided by a false maulana.

The other protagonist is his brother who is shown as a victim of post 9/11 hate crime.

Naseeruddin Shah has got a small cameo to play in it, but he packs a punch in the role he plays.

Horton Hears A Who is a wonderful movie its got a good social message to it. Somehow I feel that animated movies give a much better social and moral message.

I know lot of folks who would shun way from wathcing an animated movie because they feel cartoons are only for children and grown ups should watch Tashan.

They wont even try watching one animated movie, passing judgements without even understanding stuff is  very common.

They really dont know what they are missing.

This movie tells us to respect a person no matter how small he might be.

Thru the character of the Kangaroo it shows the generic makeup of our society, where people laugh at you just becasue they dont understand things even if  you are right.

It tells us that if we are right then take courage and stick to it like Horton and the mayor of Whoville.

Jodha Akbar

Saw the trailer of the upcoming movie Jodha Akbar. Dont know how the movie would perform at the box office, but I liked the trailer.

Especiallty the war sequences looked good, better than people fighting with cardboard weapons.

Looks like Ashutosh Gowariker has roped in some good FX folks, well its high time the Hindi film industry does it.

Seventy MM

Signed up with Seventy MM today.

They were giving a trial of one month, it seems to be an economical service.

The scheme which I have taken is pay 199 and watch 4 movies, that comes to 50 per movie.

Much cheaper than what I normally spend every month.

They have got quite a good collection.

They dont charge any late fees if you dont return the movies, but they do take a refundable security deposit when you join them.

The only downside is the movies which I shortlisted were out emoticon I guess its due to the no late fee policy.

I had shortlisted Soldier Of Fortune and one of the Miss Marple televison series, now thats a combination which I thought I would get for sure.

The customer service guy asked me to shortlist 10 movies before ordering !!!

I tried calling them later in the evening but the lines were quite busy, the IVR asked me to put in my name and phone number, I did that I never hoped that they would call me back.

But they surprised me by calling back !!!

If anyone plans to sign up then use my referall, I would get 1/6th of the amount off emoticon
